News Release: Sister Sound System
Instead of collaborating, women are often taught to compete. When women see each other looking good and achieving success, their first reaction is usually to compare themselves to other women before thinking to compliment them. Sister Sound System is a compilation of sounds from 10 young women who are looking to challenge this miseducation of women of colour in the system. Women are more powerful, more creative, and more resilient when they collaborate towards a common goal, and Sister Sound System is an example of this.

We are excited to announce that Scarborough Arts was awarded a 2020 PollinateTO grant and TD Friends of the Environment Grant! PollinateTO, an initiative funded by the City of Toronto, aims to support pollinator habitat creation in the city.

EAST Music Program: “Sister Sound System” Album Release + Virtual Listening Party
Sister Sound System is the culmination of Scarborough Arts’ EAST: Healthy Relationships Through Music 2019-20 program, which produced a 10-track compilation album by 10 young women of colour in Scarborough. The album is comprised of the participants of the EAST program led by powerhouse entertainer and entrepreneur, Dynesti.
