Discover Agincourt: An Arts & Culture Walking Tour

Scarborough Arts is excited to announce our Agincourt Walking Tour, as part of ArtworxTO: Toronto’s Year of Public Art 2021-2022. Created in 1987, with perimeters expanding in the 2000s, Agincourt is a neighbourhood that speaks to a variety of cultures and histories through significant buildings, artworks, and food places.

The tour, mapped and led by Dr. Vasuki Shanmuganathan, Gnanushan Krishnapillai, and Krish Dineshkumar, will be taking place in October. We will ask participants to consider how people, and not buildings, have come to shape its history. What has disappeared during COVID, and what will define its future?

The in-person tours will be happening on Saturday, October 9 will begin at the Chinese Art Association, and Saturday, October 16 at the Dragon Centre. They will last approximately two hours in length and allow for rest in open spaces, as well as water refills, and washrooms. Please reach out to us at hello@scarborougharts.com for any questions in regards to how we can support any accessibility needs.

Discover Agincourt and learn about the histories of public artworks, the artists that made them, as well as the best spots to see! A major thank you to supporters of this walking tour including the City of Toronto, Cultural Hotspot, Toronto Local Discoveries, the Tamil Archive Project, and Dritscape App.

Please note that our walking tours will happen rain or shine! The tours will be led by Vasuki, alongside Gnanushan Krishnapillai and Krish Dineshkumar of the Tamil Archive ProjectA virtual version of this tour will soon be available, as a part of ArtworxTO, via the Driftscapes app. Stay tuned with us on social media as we share more details!

We acknowledge the land we are travelling on is the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee and the Wendat peoples and is now home to many diverse First Nations, Inuit and Meìtis peoples. We also acknowledge that Toronto is covered by Treaty 13 signed with the Mississaugas of the Credit, and the Williams Treaties signed with multiple Mississaugas and Chippewa bands.
