Just as many animals seek to imitate their environment to evade predators, the distorted object depicted in the painting is adaptable, in the process of transformation and renewal.

About Paula McLean
Born in Sarnia, Ontario, Paula McLean received a Bachelor of Fine Art in Studio Art with a specialization in painting from Concordia University in 2017. A recent MFA graduate at the University of Waterloo, she has exhibited at several regional galleries including hearth and the plumb in Toronto; Art Mûr Gallery, Montreal and the Glenhyrst Art Gallery of Brant. A recipient of the Keith and Win Shantz Scholarship, she was a studio assistant for Ireland-based painter Ciarán Murphy in the summer of 2018. Her thesis show, To Catch a Glimpse of Things, was exhibited at the University of Waterloo Art Gallery in May, 2019. Her work explores the way the mind creates meaning through the representation and constant re-arrangement of abstract forms derived from distorted scans.
