Meet the Photographers

  • Amina F.

Hello, I am Amina and I am from East York, Toronto and I am 9 years old. My subject matter is people having fun outdoors in the beauty of nature. For my photographs I used an iPhone and an iPad, which was easiest to carry when outside on the go. Some of the photographic tools I used were colour, lines, shape, pattern and texture. My goal as an artist was to show how happy people were just walking, running and moving after being inside for so long during the pandemic.

  • Asha H.

Asha Harris is 10 years old and lives in the Beaches. Asha photographs nature. She enjoys taking photos of flowers and water. Asha uses a PowerShot camera. She uses her knowledge of color and light to help her take these photos. Asha got inspired to photograph nature because she likes that when looking at nature she gets reminded how there will always be memories of where she went and what stood out to her. She tries to show detail and beauty in her photos. Asha’s goal was to become better at taking photos. She got help reaching that goal with Project Kids and Cameras because other people’s artwork gave her ideas for her own artwork. While taking the Project Kids and Cameras Class she did so much and learned so much that she can see how much it helped her. She loves what she creates and continues to do so today.

  • Chloe Z.

Chloe Zarzoso, age 12, is a young Scarborough (Cliffcrest) Ontario-based novice photographer. She finds taking photos is a fun way to express her creative nature. Plants inspire her work because she feels that nature is very beautiful. She used a Huawei cell phone digital camera because the quality of the photos was very clear. She enjoyed using several different photography techniques, some of her favorites were worm;s eye view, birds eye view, close up and long shot. Chloe would often use her brother in her photos to demonstrate a sense of fun and play.

Chloe’s goal with her artwork is to learn more about photography and the different ways pictures are taken. Her artwork has helped her reach her goals because she has learned about the fundamentals in photography and realized her passion for this art form. Chloe has learned that there are so many things around us that you can take pictures of and that a camera helps you be aware of the beauty in everyday things. She enjoys that with photography you are taking a photo and capturing that moment in time.

  • Liya C.

I was rollerblading in the park. I just wanted to go fast and not fall! I used my Dad’s phone to take the ground and the sky. He snapped a picture of me rollerblading. I want a selfie stick.

  • Nathaniel R. E.

My name is Nathaniel Rayne Elkerton, I am 13 years old and I live in Cliffcrest. My subject matter is my family, my home, and my world around me. I used an iPhone 6s to take my photos and I use objects around my home. My mother encouraged my artwork which expresses family life, happiness, care, and playfulness and looks colourful. My goal is to become our family’s Official Photographer! This course has helped me reach my goal. In creating my artwork I learned about vantage points, lines, colours, and shadows. My work here will influence my future artwork by giving me a clearer sense of what my style is.

  • Noah S.

Hello, my name is Noah Sekhri. I am 9 years old and I live in the Birchliff neighbourhood. I like to take photos of myself playing basketball. Since I live behind Lake Ontario, I usually see a lot of animals and like to take photos of them as well. For my pictures, I use my iPhone and the technique I use most is cropping. I was inspired to do photography after an introductory lesson at Scarborough Arts. I have learned a lot about vantage points.

  • Owen C.

My subject matter is kids being kids. I used my Dad’s broken Iphone to take pictures and I tried to use the late evening sun. After a long year of COVID19 and virtual school I wanted to play with my friends in the playground. We were just having fun and I was laughing. We were all laughing and yelling playing Grounders. I think my photo captures the silliness and fun we were having.

  • Ryan C.

I just wanted to go fast on the swing and hang on as I leaned back and looked at the sky. I set up the idea and asked my Dad to take a picture of me on the swing. He took the photo with my Ipad. It was really hot out that day in the playground I don’t have a goal as an artist. I just want to build blocks and break blocks in Minecraft and parkor. I learned it is hard to take a picture when I’m flying so fast on the swing.

  • Rylan G.

I enjoy taking photos of nature, highlighting lines and textures found in the outdoors, and making use of different vantage points. I took my photos using an iPhone, and was inspired when looking back and seeing some of the cool perspectives I was able to capture.

I feel like my photos allow for the beauty of whatever I am taking a picture of to really shine through and speak for itself. I was able to learn how to make my photos more interesting and eye-catching. I'm looking forward to taking more photos in future, and with all that I learned, making the pictures I take more meaningful.

  • Sam G.

My subject matter is nature. I really like taking photos of light coming through the trees, and using different vantage points. I took my photos using my tablet, and am looking forward to soon transitioning to using a camera. I was inspired after taking my very first photos in class and seeing the pictures I had taken. I feel like my photos are peaceful and calming, and highlight the beauty found in nature. I learned so much about taking better photos and am looking forward to taking more, and keeping an eye out for that perfect light!

  • Uma S.

Hi! My name is Uma Sekhri. I am 12 years old and I live in the Birch Cliff neighborhood.

I like to take pictures of nature, such as the lake. I use my iPhone to take photos and sometimes I add in props. I also like to experiment with different angles and points of view. I first got interested in photography with Scarbrough Arts. My work does not express a personal or social issue but it might in the future. I tried to show happiness in my artwork because during these times I think we all need to share some happiness.I learned that art can come in many forms such as photography or painting. I think I have improved a lot in taking photos and I hope to continue with my artwork.
