The EAST H.E.A.R.T. program is a yearly 2SLGBTQ+ art, well-being, and peer-to-peer mentorship program. Each iteration of the Scarborough Arts EAST H.E.A.R.T. Youth program is focused on a different form of creativity. With each year, we aim to:
Encourage healthy and innovative forms of self-expression for 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Scarborough;
Foster a sustainable, enriching relationship with a youth's self and others;
Teach broadly based transferable life skills;
Inform about 2SLGBTQ+ specific sexual health and well-being, and provide new and engaging social experiences for participants by working closely with a group of youth with similar experiences.ππ
The 2023 EAST H.E.A.R.T. cohort, Public Art program will run from Tuesday February 7th to June 1st 2023 and will be led by artist and Youth Coordinator Jega Delisca, with support from Peer Mentors Sky Ravinn-French and RainΓ©e Nelson. The creative practice we'll be working on this year is developing a large-scale mural-making design. This is a hybrid program, including both virtual and in-person workshops!
As a part of this program, you will receive training and workshops twice per week led by professional artists focused on developing your art skills, an art kit containing all required materials for the program, Scarborough Arts swag, networking opportunities with professional artists from around Toronto, a community of peers with similar lived experiences, and training to strengthen understanding and resilience around mental health, sexual health, and general well-being! π
This program is funded and made possible by the City of Toronto, Toronto Urban Health Fund, Delta Gaming, and Bingo.
DEADLINE TO APPLY: January 16th, 2023. If you require another method of applying, please reach out to jega@scarborougharts.com and emily@scarborougharts.com.
