"Intersections” With Anthony Gebrehiwot Registration Now Open!

Scarborough Arts is honored and excited to announce our partnership with Scarborough-based photographer, Anthony Gebrehiwot, in the upcoming public art workshop series, “Intersection” which is a City of Toronto Arts & Culture Signature Project. Find out more about Anthony and the program below, and click the link to register!

“Intersections” is a 10 - 12 week public art workshop series that will explore the ways in which our regional and geographical locations interact and intertwine with our social memory. Themes such as racism, classism, xenophobia, misogyny, mental health, homophobia and transphobia will be explored. Through group dialogue, community building, and asking thoughtful questions, participants will develop a critical lens that will contend against imperialist, patriarchal and predominantly white hegemonic notions/practices of gentrification.

Scarborough-based photographer, Anthony Gebrehiwot, will guide and mentor a group of 7-10 participants (with intermediate and/or advanced experience in photography and photo editing skills) to put together an installation (location TBD) that engaged with the them "Intersections." The "Intersection" themed installation will reflect the views and experiences of the participants as they explore their own identities, histories and future lives through powerful visual storytelling techniques and captivating visuals. The outcome will be a stirring exploration of each individual photographer's subjective life in relation to the complexities that lie at the intersections of contemporary life.
