Sheila Thadani

How long have you been a member of Scarborough Arts?
I joined Scarborough Arts some years back.

What kind of art do you practice, and how long have you been practicing it?
I paint in oils. My paintings are realistic, and my subject is usually nature: landscapes, seascapes, etc. I also paint portraits; I have been painting them since I was in my early teens. I remember I submitted a piece to an exhibition at that tender age and won the first prize.

“Audrey” by Sheila Thadani

My paintings try to represent subject matter truthfully; I do not try to reshape it to my own fancy. I do not include exotic or implausible elements in what I see or perceive, as I think nature is beautiful and does not require unnecessary additions. I subscribe to the principle that “painting is … Read More »

Anne Martin

How long have you been a member of Scarborough Arts?
I have been a member of Scarborough Arts for 12 years.

What kind of art do you practice, and how long have you been practicing it?
I have been painting since 2001. I find it very exciting to take a blank canvas and create something unique from an infinite source of subject matter. However, I do love to experiment with a variety of media: pastel, oil, acrylic, coloured pencil, and mixed media (collages) – basically everything except watercolour. Depending on my mood, each medium becomes my favourite!

Tell us about the pieces we are featuring today.

I did this piece recently as a result of a class with Gary Smith, a great artist and teacher. My style tends to be somewhere between realism and abstraction. I like … Read More »

Barbara Laplante

How long have you been a member of Scarborough Arts?
I believe I have been a member of Scarborough Arts for more than 15 years. I cannot recall exactly when I enrolled. I continue to be impressed with Scarborough Arts’ community approach, and their efforts to promote and help further the growth of new and emerging artists. I also really appreciate the opportunities provided by Scarborough Arts to display works several times each year, and accept works at the gallery on a consignment basis.

What kind of art do you practice, and how long have you been practicing it?
I began painting in earnest after my retirement from teaching in 1996. My initial studies were in watercolour. I also took classes in pastels and later pursued Japanese Brush painting. I received my “seal” – the mark of graduation in that … Read More »
