Sergei Petrov is on a mission to make our world a better place through arts, culture and innovation.

A Film School graduate, Sergei’s passion for creative projects and solutions have helped him along his professional and personal years of growth and change.

In his early 20’s and still in college, he operated his own production company, producing works that went on to screen at international film festivals including TIFF Kids, Durango IFF, Banff Media Festival, with some winning honours and awards. His projects included works for the Government of Ontario, Hockey Hall of Fame, Arts & Letters Club of Canada, Ontario Film Review Board, music videos, feature documentaries and short films. He has worked at Toronto International Film Festival and Canadian Film Centre, and was a Professor of Film Studies at Durham College, as well as a Programmer and Consultant for numerous national and international festival and events.

For five years, Sergei has been on the Board of Directors at the Scarborough Arts (Council), as a sitting Vice-Chair for two years and co-Chair of the Fundraising Committee, and represented the organization for two years at the City Hall annual budget meetings.

He is very proud to play his part as one of the founding Board Members of a Human Rights Organization, Jayu Canada Inc.

Sergei is the founder and Executive Director of the Scarborough Worldwide Film Festival, now in its 4th year. Since 2013, the festival has welcomed over 10,000 guests; has screened over 100 films from over 70 countries; and has presented unique free programming for youth and high-school students, under-served communities, film-makers, families, and Toronto residents.

In 2014, Sergei was nominated for the Premier of Ontario Art & Design Award for his work on the Festival.
