October 24, 2017. Scarborough, Ontario—It is with mixed feelings that we announce that Sergei Petrov has left his role as Executive Director of Scarborough Arts.

Sergei joined the organization in November 2015. During his two-year tenure at Scarborough Arts, he oversaw the development of a number of new initiatives including SA Together, a year-long arts residency program for local groups and collectives, and the SA Suite of Programs, a series of accessible events and workshops pitched by local artists for the Scarborough community. As the founder of the Scarborough Worldwide Film Festival over 5 years ago, Sergei also brought the excitement of the Festival into the organization’s operations.  He has demonstrated an ongoing commitment to enriching and celebrating the arts in the Scarborough community.

We are truly grateful to Sergei for the vision and passion that he brought into the organization. We wish him success as he moves on to pursue other creative projects,” says Julie Witt, Chair of Scarborough Arts’ Board of Directors. “It is an exciting time for Scarborough Arts as we look forward to major projects and changes in the organization in the coming year, including the organization’s 40th anniversary celebrations, Cultural Hotspot 2018, Nuit Blanche, as well as the formulation of a new strategic plan for 2018-2021. The person who steps into the Executive Director role will be pivotal to steering the direction and ensuring the success of the organization.”

The Board of Directors has assembled a committee to lead the search to find a new Executive Director for Scarborough Arts. Details about the job position will be shared on our website soon. An Interim Executive Director will be announced in early November 2017, and will guide the organization through this transition period until an appropriate candidate has been found.

Please continue to forward any urgent inquiries to the Executive Director email at and they will be re-directed to the appropriate Department, or contact Julie Witt, Board Chair, at

Scarborough Arts, a non-profit charitable organization, is the only arts organization of its kind specifically serving the Scarborough community through innovative arts and culture programs for citizens of all ages. We bring arts to the community and community to the arts.
