Scarborough Arts is Hiring a Peer Mentor for the EAST H.E.A.R.T. (Health, Education, Art, Resilience, Together) Program!

WHO WE’RE LOOKING FOR: 

Are you a 2SLGBTQ+* Scarborough-based youth aged 18-29 with a desire to make a positive impact in your local community? Do you have an interest and/or practice in the visual arts? Are you passionate about supporting the safety and wellbeing of 2SLGBTQ+ youth? Are you interested in deepening your knowledge of sexual health prevention, education, and resource sharing for 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Scarborough? Do you have experience and/or interest in peer mentorship? If so, Scarborough Arts is looking for you! 

We are currently seeking a dynamic, energetic, and passionate Peer Mentor to support our EAST: H.E.A.R.T. (Health, Education, Art, Resilience, Together) “Scarborough On Paper Program.” The Peer mentor will work and train closely with the program’s Youth Coordinator and Peer Mentor, as well as Scarborough Arts Program Manager. 

JOB DESCRIPTION 

Job Title: EAST: H.E.A.R.T. (Health, Education, Art, Resilience, Together) Peer Mentor 

Reporting to: Program Manager, Scarborough Arts; Youth Coordinator, EAST H.E.A.R.T. 

Program Description: EAST: H.E.A.R.T. (Health, Education, Art, Resilience, Together) is a yearly collaborative program for 2SLGBTQ+ Scarborough youth between the ages of 18 and 29. In this program, youth participants work under the guidance of a Youth Coordinator and Peer Mentors, along with professional artists, project managers, local social service providers, and youth outreach workers. 

Each iteration of our EAST Youth program focuses on a different form of creative expression. In this program we focus on: encouraging healthy and innovative forms of self-expression for 2SLGBTQ+ youth in Scarborough; fostering a sustainable, enriching relationship with a youth’s self and others; teaching broadly based transferable life skills; informing youth about 2SLGBTQ+ specific health and wellbeing practices, resources and educational materials; and, providing new and engaging social experiences for participants by working closely in a group of youth with similar lived experiences.
