GROWING UP KGO

ARTIST STATEMENT

“Growing Up KGO” showcases the perspectives of youth growing up in the Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park community through the medium of digital photography. The familiar colors, shapes, landscapes and subjects will resonate across generations while revealing new contexts through the eyes of artists ages 9 to 16. The exhibition includes works by Akash Thivviyanathan, Ashwin Thivviyanathan, Hevin Abdou, Ibrahim Abdou,  and Mukti Dulal.

EXHIBIT INTRODUCTION

 The community of Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park is a goldmine for untapped artists seeking opportunities to express themselves. With the creation of KGO Kids & Cameras by resident leaders in partnership with the East Scarborough Storefront, these local artists have the opportunity to explore and develop their talents. Growing Up KGO is the result of the careful cultivation of these brilliant young creatives, and curation by East Scarborough Storefront Staff.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

KGO Kids and Cameras are a collective of young artists based in the community of Kingston-Galloway-Orton Park. They are a group of exuberant and multifaceted youth, ages 9 to 16, who are active in the community through sports, volunteering and more. As budding artists, they are excited for their first opportunity to be showcased in a gallery and share their artwork with the community. KGO Kids and Cameras would like to thank Scarborough Arts for the opportunity.
