Sergei Petrov is on a mission to make our world a better place through arts, culture and innovation.
A Film School graduate, Sergei’s passion for creative projects and solutions have helped him along his professional and personal years of growth and change.
In his early 20’s and still in college, he operated his own production company, producing works that went on to screen at international film festivals including TIFF Kids, Durango IFF, Banff Media Festival, with some winning honours and awards. His projects included works for the Government of Ontario, Hockey Hall of Fame, Arts & Letters Club of Canada, Ontario Film Review Board, music videos, feature documentaries and short films. Are you an emerging documentarian or photographer between the ages of 16 and 24? Are you passionate about the issues faced by youth in your neighbourhood and communities?
Then we are looking for you!
Apply to EAST Animating Democracy, Scarborough Arts’ newest program for youth that aims to explore and call into attention the many urgent issues experienced by youth in our neighbourhoods and communities — whether it be poverty, homelessness, youth unemployment, accessibility, homophobia, racism, etc. Using the medium of photography and documentary, the youth will animate their issue/s of choice with the guidance and mentorship of professionals.

Scarborough Arts’ Annual General Meeting 2015 is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2015 at the Bluffs Gallery, 1859 Kingston Road, for 6:30 PM. If you have participated in our programs, joined us at events, volunteered with us, or supported us in any way, you are welcome to join us as we look back on our 2014 – 2015 year of programming and financials! Also, meet and mingle with the Scarborough Arts staff and Board members, enjoy live performances, and treat yourself to food and refreshments!

Scarborough Arts puts the spotlight on art and disabilities this October with Access & Accessibilities, a new visual arts exhibition at the Bluffs Gallery. Six artists of varying dis/abilities visually explore what it means to create art as a disabled person, as well as the experiences of navigating spaces and places as people with accessibility needs.

Join us for the Access & Accessibilities Opening Reception on Wednesday, October 21, 2015, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the Bluffs Gallery, 1859 Kingston Road. View the art on display, engage the artists in conversation, and enjoy light refreshments. The event is free and everyone is welcome.
Access & Accessibilities is on view from October 19 to November 23, 2015. Our gallery hours are Mondays to Fridays, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.

Something BIG is coming your way this winter!
This year, Scarborough Arts is proud to produce our 30th Annual Juried Exhibition, our grandest exhibition of the year created and curated in response to a themed call. In celebration of this milestone, we are making our Annual Juried Exhibition even grander by combining it with the BIG ART BOOK, a print and online anthology of writing and visual arts in Scarborough. Get your artworks published in the BIG ART BOOK and possibly have it exhibited at the Papermill Gallery for the Annual Juried Exhibition!

Need help photographing your artworks? Do you need them to be high resolution and professional quality?
We are offering a free Artwork Photobooth on Thursday, October 22, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the Bluffs Gallery! Bring in a maximum of three (3) artworks that you would like photographed and we’ll take care of the rest!
Everyone is welcome to register, but priority will be given to those interested in submitting their works to this year’s Annual Juried Exhibition + BIG ART BOOK.
Artists will receive two (2) images of each artwork (frontal views only — no detailed shots). Photos will be edited and formatted as high-resolution images (300 dpi) in .tiff format, and will be given to artists on the spot. Artists are welcome to bring their own USB keys, but CD’s will also be available for sale at the Bluffs Gallery for $2.

This fall, Scarborough Arts wants to initiate an inclusive and thought-provoking conversation about art and disabilities with Access & Accessabilities, a new exhibition at the Bluffs Gallery. We want you to take part in this conversation by submitting pieces that thoughtfully explore accessibility issues and disabilities visually and in any visual medium — whether drawing, painting, sculpture, design, crafts, photography or video. We encourage all artists of all abilities to submit.
The deadline to send us your application is Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 5 pm. Late entries will not be considered.

This fall, Scarborough Arts introduces our newest installment of the EAST program: EAST Animating Democracy. Aimed at exploring democratic processes, the program seeks to put a spotlight on urgent issues in our neighbourhoods and communities from the youth’s perspective, and animate these issues by creating a documentary or a photo exhibition with the guidance of field professionals.
Scarborough Arts is seeking brazen and passionate documentarians and photographers aged 16 to 24 years old to join this new and exciting program. Wherever the participants’ interests lie — whether on poverty, homelessness, youth unemployment, accessibility, homophobia, racism, etc. — the program will provide the participants with guidance, structure, mentorship, and the right tools to create a high-quality product. The program will also teach skills in: critical thinking, curating, digital documentation, post-production, research and script writing, and collaboration.
EAST Animating Democracy runs from November 2015 to May 2016.

Scarborough Arts and North York Arts have partnered with Scotiabank Nuit Blanche this year, and is pleased to present you an opportunity to take an active part in this year’s Nuit Blanche, Toronto’s free all-night contemporary art event.
Internationally-acclaimed artist, JR, invites you to take part in his global “group action” project and participatory art installation, Inside Out. Participate in this project simply by dropping by Mel Lastman Square on Tuesday, September 29, 2015, any time between 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM; get your photo taken and printed on site; and post it on various designated spots around Mel Lastman Square.
