ABOUT THE BRIDGING FESTIVAL
Inaugurated in 2010, The Bridging Festival is a community arts and culture festival which aims to bring communities together in this culturally vibrant neighbourhood while celebrating local leadership, creativity, and diversity. Legacies from the first two events are still evident in the colourful murals painted on the pillars supporting the bridge underneath, and on the long concrete walls along the walkway on top of the Lawrence Avenue East Bridge.

The 6th annual Bridging Festival is back this year—bigger and better! Bridging Festival is now part of the Scarborough Worldwide Film Festival and is moving from the Lawrence Avenue East Bridge at the Kingston-Galloway/Orton Park neighbourhood to Albert Campbell Square! From June 3 to 4, Bridging Festival will animate Albert Campbell Square with performances, activities for all ages, an arts market, community booths, film screenings, and more.
We are looking for vendors and community booths for the second day of the Bridging Festival on Saturday, June 4, from 1:00 PM onwards. Vendors and community booths have the opportunity to run arts workshops and interactive activities and/or sell original arts & crafts pieces. If you’re interested to be part of the Bridging Festival this year, reach out to us by Tuesday, May 31!

Scarborough Arts is excited to announce the official lineup of films for the 4th Annual Scarborough Worldwide Film Festival (SCARFF), taking place from June 2 to 11, 2016 in various Scarborough and East York locations. This year, SCARFF features a superb lineup of highly-acclaimed Canadian and international films, short films and documentaries created by youth, outdoor screenings, industry meetings, and an education summit.
The Bridging Festival, Scarborough Arts’ art and culture festival, also comes together with SCARFF and takes place on Friday, June 3 and Saturday, June 4 at Albert Campbell Square. The Bridging Festival aims to bridge the different communities of Scarborough through a celebration of art and culture.

We are pleased to announce that this year, Scarborough Arts is presenting the 4th Annual Scarborough Worldwide Film Festival (ScarFF)!
ScarFF will light up various locations in Scarborough on June 2 to 11, 2016, and will feature local and international films, short film and documentary programs, industry meetings, educational events, as well as parties and awards nights. Dubbed by Toronto Star as one of “GTA’s most promising new fests,” ScarFF aims to bridge the different communities in Scarborough and to bridge the gap between Scarborough and the rest of Toronto through a celebration of the arts.

On May 14 at 2:00 PM, Tarragon Theatre and three Scarborough schools, in celebration of Tarragon Theatre’s 45th anniversary, present an extraordinary collaborative theatre event, #TheDonellyProject, an adaptation of Sticks and Stones: The Donnellys Part I. First presented at Tarragon in 1973, the James Reaney classic has been newly adapted and is directed by Tarragon Playwright-in-Residence Kat Sandler. Over 50 young actors and musicians from R.H. King Academy, Agincourt Collegiate Institute, and the University of Toronto Scarborough will converge on the Scarborough Arts Park (Harrison Properties Park 1859 Kingston Rd) to explore, explode and claim The Donnellys as their own.

The 6th Annual Birkdale Art in the Park will take place on July 9, 2016. This year, Scarborough Arts joins the Midland Park Community Association to execute this important event that supports the growth and visibility of Scarborough’s vibrant artistic community.
Midland Park Community Association representative David Barnes notes:
“What began five years ago continues to grow with many local artists and artisans who produce and sell original works of art including jewellery, photographs, mixed media, cards, oil and acrylic paintings and handmade crafts in our indoor and outdoor juried art show.”

On display in the Bluffs Gallery from April 21 to May 28, 2016 is our Spring Forward: Members Exhibition, featuring a stunning array of visual art, sculpture and new media works that reflect the season’s images and poetic associations. In addition, the exhibit highlights selected poems by Scarborough Arts members that give expression to the emotions and experiences that arrive with winter’s departure.

Scarborough Arts’ 2016 spring exhibit kicks off during National Poetry Month. As such, we invite our members that are poets to submit works that reflect on the season.
Spring is the time that for centuries has given rise to poetic inspiration. In his seminal poem The Wasteland, T.S. Eliot famously declared April the “cruelest month”; George Elliott Clarke signalled that “spring’s resurrection [is]/foretold by the sharp fused fragrance of jubilee roses.” Scarborough Arts’ 2016 Spring Members Exhibit will incorporate poems about or inspired by the season and feature this work alongside our members’ selected visual artworks.
