Scarborough Arts Meet Ups are a series of spontaneous get-togethers for artists and the community. These free evening sessions are open to residents of all ages and will support creative activity in the community, building networks and encouraging collaboration.
A further aim of the Meet Ups is to cultivate and expand the Scarborough Arts community of artists, volunteers and creative individuals. The 2012 activities will capitalize on the skills and experiences of staff members, encouraging opportunities for staff to connect with community members from all backgrounds.
*All meetups are held at Scarborough Arts (1859 Kingston Road) and are FREE! Everyone is welcome. No experience necessary.

The Bridging Festival (2012)

The Bridging Festival is a multidisciplinary arts and community festival designed to explore and celebrate the cultural diversity of Kingston-Galloway Orton Park (KGO) neighbourhood, and bring communities together in this culturally vibrant area of Scarborough. The festival will take place above the Lawrence Avenue East Bridge in the heart of KGO. Historically divided by a local bridge, the KGO neighbourhood faces ongoing challenges of unemployment, poverty, isolation from public transportation and a lack of services. Through a multitude of free creative interactive activities, events and performances, local residents will celebrate their community while highlighting its complex cultural identity, ongoing social achievements and increasing resident solidarity. All dance and movement beginners, novices and movement phobic folk are welcomed to attend this fun, energetic “no judgement zone” designed to get you to reconnect with you. “If you can walk you can dance” and this is the philosophy of your laughter loving instructor Tamla Matthews who will have you impressing yourself with just how far you can stretch, how low you can go and how much creativity you really have pent up in your body. Bring water, a large towel or mat. Footwear is optional but please note that this is an outdoor class with music.
